[280 and 285]. The NEC differentiates them by
voltage level. In actual practice and application, they differ in
several ways. For example, the kinds of devices used, the location
of the devices, and the actual power ratings of the devices.
[280.2]. Where the rating of the surge protector
is less than the maximum continuous phase-to-ground voltage (at the
power frequency) available at the point of application. Note that
"available" does not mean "nominal."
[280.12]. Make it as short as practical. A second
rule is to avoid unnecessary bends. A third rule, not in the NEC, is
to keep the bends on as gradual a radius as practical.
[280.23]. It can't be smaller than 6 AWG.
[280.24]. Yes, if you meet the provisions of
280.24(A) or get special permission.
